About the Book:

The Invisible Man is a science fiction novella by H.G. Wells published in 1897. It was serialised originally in Pearson’s Weekly in 1897 and published as a novel the same year. Griffin, the scientist is the protagonist, who has devoted himself to research into optics and invents a way to change a body’s refractive index to that of air so that he absorbs and reflects no light and thus becomes invisible. He successfully carries out this procedure on himself, but fails to reverse the procedure in his attempt.

While its predecessors, The Time Machine and The Island of Doctor Moreau, were written using first-hand narrators, Wells adopts a third person objective point of view in The Invisible Man.

The Invisible Man is a masterpiece of science fiction and is the fascinating story of Griffin, a scientist, who creates a serum to render himself invisible and his descent into madness that follows. Rated differently and reviewed variously, the novella is seen as an interesting story of a mad scientist who seeks to start a Reign of Terror with his totally amoral attitude, or a bit melodramatic, or even unintentionally ‘funny’ like those old ‘B’ grade movies.
