The premise of this book is that the leadership required to achieve a sustainable, successful future will emerge from visionary pilot projects, owing much to the great diversity of non-governmental organizations and non-profit initiatives. Rather than looking to the conventional marketplace, the kind of dramatic achievements we need most are far more likely to spring from "the beginners mind" than from those both informed and imprisoned by their own expertise. The task for NGO's and non-profits is to take on the explorations and demonstrations that those who know too much have long ago dismissed as being impossible. Given the challenges before us, if we are not focused on achieving the impossible, we are aiming too low.

The future depends on our being encouraged and inspired toward ever higher, more comprehensive forms of clarity. God gave us two legs for balance and two eyes so that we might have a visual understanding of perspective and depth. May our two worlds view of the future provide that same balance and perspective for the kind of understanding that springs from our hearts - a way of seeing that will enable us to replace argument with exploration and negativity and fear with commitment and faith.
