About the Book:
Mohammad Omar, known to his beloved readers by the pen-name ‘Shaukat’ Thanvi, was born on February 03, 1904 in the Mathura District, Bandarban (U.P). He spent his childhood in the state of Bhopal where his father was the Inspector General of Police. After retiring from the service, his father moved to Lucknow. Shaukat Thanvi, right from his student-hood days, was extremely fond of poetry and literature. He started is career as a news-writer with the daily ‘Ham-dam’. In the year 1930, he published his famous satirical novel ‘Swadeshi Rail’. He also worked as the editor-in-chief for the daily ‘Awadh Akhbar’. Later, he was also associated with the All India Radio Lucknow.
Subsequently, he arrived in the city of Lahore as a story-writer in Pancholi Art Pictures. And once he settled in Pakistan, he worked closely with Radio Pakistan. Shaukat has more than fifty satirical story collections and novels to his name. A collection of his poems has also been published with the name ‘Gahristaan’. In recognition of his literary contributions, the Government of Pakistan honoured him with the appellation of ‘Tamgha-e-Imtiyaaz’. Aged just 59, Shaukat, passed away in Lahore on 4 th May 1963.
