the rise of civil society forum and the nationwide debate on lokpal bill can certainly be attributed to the sweeping influence of tv or broadcast media on the minds of indian citizens. dr. keshav sathaye, a leading media practitioner from pune, through his lucid writing style has beautifully captured the essence of this all invasive media power in his book on “broadcast journalism and digital media”. the book meticulously provides wealth of information and great insight into this media craft for the students of broadcast journalism and mass communication. it will also be a great reading for a layman who is interested to know “how media functions?” i have observed that a lot many secondary schools offer a month long course for their students on tv journalism and media. i am sure that they will also find dr. sathaye’s book extremely useful in understanding the finer aspects and that too very methodically. the beauty of the narrative of this book is bringing forth the indian context interspersed with several examples which we have been witnessing on the indian tv screen. despite being in the midst of this robust media growth over the last 4 decades in our country, as a broadcaster and a media practitioner, i have come across very few books of this nature which try to go to the depths of this 21st century media craft “the tv journalism” . i am sure dr keshav sathaye’s book is bound to catch the imagination of the students as well as the faculty of journalism and communication schools across the country
